Sconces

Sconces

There are many different designs, types, and functions of sconces. It is easy to style the wrong one in the wrong place. We wanted to share our best practices for how and where to style sconces to get functional and beautiful lighting. Focusing on the bathroom, hallway, and mantle, we want to make it easy for you to choose the perfect lighting for each space. Regardless if you are currently in a new build or have been living in your home for years, sconces can be easily changed or refreshed

Bathroom. The number one tip is no linen shades in the bathroom. There is a lot of damp air and the linen shade will eventually break down and be ruined. The second tip is lots of bulbs. Skip any light with only one bulb and go for one with two or three. Our favorite sconces for the bathroom are bar lights placed along each side of the mirror right at eye-level. The Bowery or Waldorf Sconces are the perfect example. Their elongated form easily provides ample light to make it easy to really see your face. In a powder or hall bath, where bright light isn’t as necessary, lower light from a more decorative sconce can help set a mood. We love to style two of our Pomona Sconces stacked vertically next to the mirror.

Hallway. Generally in a hallway, we style a sconce with a shade providing an ambiance glow. We also like to install the lights higher, for added illumination and visual dimension. One of our favorite moments to create is a gallery wall either down the hallway or as a feature at the end of the space. We love to style our Kensington Picture Light over special pieces to draw the eye. This could be over a featured artwork or at the top of the entire collection.

Mantle. The perfect place to showcase a dramatic, special moment is a mantle. It is ideal for putting showstopper sconces with unique shades, shades, and designs. We love our Eva Globe with its dimensional glass shades complemented by a thin brass frame. For added movement, the Kenton Wall Sconce lends a refined look with its tapered linen shade and outstretched arm.

Sconces are a beautiful light source and we think every home can benefit from the right fit. To shop our curated collection, shop sconces here.
